When it comes to Ohio State Football, it is always go big or go home. Each year over 100,000 fans flock to Ohio Stadium each home game weekend to watch ‘THE’ Ohio State University football team take the field in search of another National Championship. But the football team isn’t the only big thing happening in Columbus. Dr. Paul Janssen of Ohio State’s College of Medicine over the past four years used an estimated 500,000 LEGO bricks to build a replica of the 100-year-old Ohio Stadium. While this is already impressive enough, the reason he is building it is why it is getting so much attention.

Professor Builds A LEGO Ohio Stadium To Raise Money For Research

Anyone that builds huge LEGO sets knows how long it can take to finish the project. Now imagine that that project took four years to build. That is just what Dr. Paul Janssen of Ohio State’s College of Medicine did. Dr. Janssen spent his downtime over the past four years building a LEGO replica of the best damn stadium in the land Ohio Stadium, the home of the Buckeyes. Now, this project just wasn’t built for fun, it had another purpose. That purpose was to raise money to help students pay for scientific research papers, attend national conferences and pay for expensive samples needed for cardiovascular research. Thanks to a report from 10 WBNS we get a look into this fundraising project.

10 WBNS reported that this project started in 2017 and so far has raised over $85,000 to help students pay for research papers, attend national conferences and pay for expensive samples needed for cardiovascular research.

“”Research papers can cost $250,000 per paper on average,” Janssen said. The stadium measures 8 feet by 6 feet and is on display inside the Ohio State University Library. “I’m what’s called, in Lego terms, a purist. I don’t saw pieces off I don’t paint pieces I just use the pieces you can buy in the store,” Janssen said.”

Donations for this project start at $25 and go up to $200. Each donation will add one to eight LEGO minifigures to the stadium. You can find out more about this fundraiser and the LEGO Ohio Stadium by clicking here.
