Disney’s live-action Lion King prequel has cast Aaron Pierre and Kelvin Harrison Jr. in lead roles.

The film will explore the mythology of existing characters in the Lion King world, including Mufasa’s origin story. Moonlight’s Barry Jenkins is set to direct.

Harrison Jr. will voice Mufasa. He recently appeared in The Trial of the Chicago 7.

Pierre will play Taka, aka Scar. The actor recently worked with Jenkins on Amazon’s The Underground Railroad.

Additional casting for the film is currently underway. Deadline reports additional big name stars will likely find their way to the project.

Jenkins will direct the film from a script by Jeff Nathanson, who wrote the previous live-action version of The Lion King. During Disney Investor Day last year, the company revealed Hans Zimmer, Pharrell, and Nicholas Britell will score the feature.

We will update you with more casting news for the film as it is announced.
